Comprehensive Hearing Evaluation

Because self-diagnosis of hearing loss can be unreliable, a hearing test administered by our team of highly trained hearing health professionals is recommended. Your journey towards your most enhanced hearing experiences all begins with an initial hearing consultation.

There is a variety of hearing assessments that are used to evaluate and diagnose hearing health-related conditions. Hearing tests are noninvasive and conducted by a hearing healthcare specialist who can support you through the process. We take the time to comprehensively evaluate your hearing health. We use a few different tests including pure tone audiometry. This involves wearing headphones (in a quiet space) that are connected to an audiometer - a machine that plays sounds at different pitches and frequencies. We will guide you through the test as you indicate the sounds you can hear. Your results are collected in real-time and shared with you after the test. We also provide bone conduction and speech testing to thoroughly identify changes to your hearing health.

Accurate diagnoses and successful treatments first require complete and thorough hearing evaluations. Hearing tests are critical in helping us get a better picture of your overall hearing health and allow them to distinguish underlying causes and factors contributing to your hearing complications.

Beyond considering a hearing consultation for already demonstrated hearing trouble, scheduling a regular hearing exam every few years is a smart way to be proactive about maintaining your healthiest hearing. We can work individually with you to find the exam frequency that suits your lifestyle and schedule. By instituting healthy habits today, you can avoid the consequences of an undiagnosed and untreated hearing loss tomorrow; conditions like depression, anxiety, isolation, and even dementia.

If you have experienced any unusual changes in your hearing or suspect that your hearing has been compromised, schedule a hearing test with us as soon as possible and let AB Hearing get you on track to the most effective solutions.

Hearing Aid Maintenance

Like most finely tuned machines, hearing aids require maintenance every now and then. While thorough cleaning and good habits around moisture exposure will keep your hearing aids in prime condition, everyone runs into maintenance work eventually.

Most of the manufacturers we work with offer some form of a loss and damage and repair warranty, so it’s more than likely your hearing aid investment will be covered for some time. Under your warranty period, all factory costs are covered for repairs. We know that hearing aids are an investment and our ultimate goal is your best hearing health, so we keep our office costs as low as possible so that you can use us as a resource even after your warranty period has ended. We are committed to providing you with the best hearing aid experience possible.

OTC Hearing Aids

You may have heard the term over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids recently. If you are experiencing hearing loss for the first time, the market for hearing devices can be overwhelming. In order to better understand the current hearing aid market, consider the two primary ways to get hearing aids: OTC and prescription.

Until recently, the only option was to go to a hearing health professional who would prescribe hearing aids, and then the hearing aids would be purchased through them. With recent changes to the law, hearing aids can now be purchased from a local pharmacy or online.

While there are many advantages to OTC hearing aids - namely accessibility - we do have some recommendations to ensure that you get the most out of your devices.

Batteries

Hearing aids are no different from other portable electronic devices and require batteries to operate. In the past, all hearing aids were powered by small "button" batteries; however, the majority of devices these days come with integrated lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. It is wise to consider which of these powering options best suit your lifestyle needs when selecting a hearing aid.

Assistive Listening Devices

We can also help you connect to the smartphone apps on any of your devices so that you maximize the options available on so many of today’s hearing solution options.

Custom Hearing Protection

Noise exposure is one of the most common causes of hearing loss. We are constantly absorbing and processing varying levels of noise - in the workplace, listening to music, environmental noises, etc. These everyday noises can be potentially hazardous to hearing health. One of the best ways to prevent noise-induced hearing loss is by wearing hearing protection, including custom earmolds and earplugs. Contact us to learn more!
